Comment 1: Bride And Groom Photos
We have a friend who wrote to us about a great decoration for a wedding
reception! The mother of the bride had taken two baby photos of both the
bride and the groom, and had them printed in a very large poster size. The
pictures were huge. They placed these two photos in the gym where the
reception was held. Then they printed the engagement photo of the bride and
groom in a large poster size, and put it inbetween the posters of their two
baby photos. It was really, really cute! They also had placed greenery and
silk flowers around the posters.

Comment 2: Centerpieces
I ordered my Calla Lilys for our son's wedding from Costco.com. The flowers
were fed ex'd right to my door and were beautiful. Then we just put them in
tall dramatic vases with some curly willows for an easy yet pricey looking
centerpiece.

Comment 4: Cultural Hall False Ceiling
Hi, Sally sent me your email about the cultural hall ceiling. We actually
put up a false ceiling in our gym this past spring and it turned out quite
nice. My husband will tell you it wasn't worth it and that he'll never do
it again, but I'm sure he would if enough time passed! Kinda like having
a baby! :)
What we did was this: First we strung 2 wires along the long side of the
gym. We were lucky that there were already eye bolts in the walls up
pretty high-about the height of the top of the stage opening. We used a
light-weight cable with some kind of U hooks on the ends (my husband is
an engineer!) but I have seen someone use heavy weight baling wire and
then just cut it down when they were done. We also tied a white rope from
basket to basket to be the center of our "tent".
For our tent material, we used the white plastic that comes on rolls from
Party City. And this is what we found to be the biggest tip: DO NOT USE
THE 300 FOOT ROLLS. Use the 100 foot ones because on the longer ones, the
plastic is not perfectly straight. I don't know why, it just isn't. Then,
we used straight pins to keep the long edges together, about 3 to 5 feet
apart. We also hung plastic on the walls so it felt more like a tent. We
used those heavy duty metal clips from Office Depot to attach the plastic
to the cables. I don't know what they are called but they are black with
metal... If you need me to I can send a picture so you will know what I am
talking about. As a matter of fact, I will be happy to send you some
pictures of our reception if you would like.
Please let me know if you have any questions. It took awhile to do, but
it was well worth it. My daughter said it was better than she imagined!
Good luck!
Jane

Comment 5: Dollar Stores
Dollar stores have great vases for center pieces. You can put colored
water in them and add a floating candle or flower.
Tulle can be swagged around the cake table. Silk flowers (made silk
ribbon bows) Glue flower heads onto them to make small bouquets. Pin
them to the cake table where the tulle came up to meet the table.
